Commissioner Skrmetta Reelected

In his runoff on the fifth of December, Commissioner Eric Skrmetta of the Louisiana PSC was reelected to represent the state’s District 1 (eastern Louisiana). Commissioner Skrmetta, a Republican, received fifty-six thousand votes, besting Democrat Allen Borne, Jr., who received the remaining thirty-five thousand votes.

Borne increased his share of votes from the nonpartisan primary, twenty-five percent, to his thirty-eight percent in the runoff. But Commissioner Skrmetta increased his share from the primary, thirty-one percent, to his sixty-two percent in the runoff.

Just one more Commissioner election remains. In the upcoming runoff on the fifth of January, Chair Bubba McDonald faces off against a Democrat challenger, in a vote that is better known for the dual runoffs for the U.S. Senate.
